An Important Design Note for Softcover Books:
When designing a book with a page count under 40, we strongly suggest you do not add any text to the spine. Because 20-40 pages is not very thick, your text likely won't fit properly.
Wondering what the spine is? That is what you see in this picture. It is the flat edge where the book is bound together. The fewer sheets in the book, the smaller the spine. The spine in the picture has a little over 40 pages, so it would be ok for some text.
So, while we don't recommend text on the spine at low page counts, we do encourage you to add some colour or wrap an image around the cover, front to back. Just watch out because you may loose some important elements of your design if it is on a small spine. |
